Man arrested after impersonating police officer at active Bremerton crime scene

The man told officers at the scene that he was an off-duty Edmonds officer, but in reality was a security guard. BREMERTON, Wash. — A man who was passing himself off as an off-duty detective was arrested after showing up to an active crime scene in Bremerton with a vehicle featuring blue police lights. The Bremerton Police Department (BPD) says the man arrived in an unmarked Ford Explorer and identified himself as an off-duty Edmonds detective. He had body armor with "POLICE" and "SWAT" logos and a metallic Edmonds Police badge.  The man turned out to be a security guard for a nearby business and he "had been committing law enforcement acts in the downtown corridor." Officers determined that the man was a convicted felon who was illegally possessing a firearm. He also was in possession of a large amount of police equipment when he was arrested, BPD says. The man was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree. Anyone who may have had an encounter with the man is asked to call Bremerton police at 360-473-5220 and reference case number B25-004726.

Second man charged in robberies and burglaries of local professional athletes, Macklemore

Several of the robberies were violent, as prosecutors said Sherman's family was held at gunpoint and Ichiro's wife was assaulted when the suspects tried to break in. SEATTLE — A second man has now been charged in a string of burglaries and robberies targeting local professional athletes and the Seattle home of rapper Macklemore. Patrick Maisonet was charged Thursday with 10 felony crimes, as he and another accomplice are accused of break-ins at the homes of Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell, and former Seahawks star Richard Sherman. Several of the robberies were violent, as Sherman's family was held at gunpoint and Ichiro's wife was assaulted during a break-in at his Issaquah home, according to court documents. Maisonet was arrested in late August on a warrant related to a robbery of a Bellevue jewelry store. His co-conspirator, Earl Riley IV, remains in custody on $1 million after being charged with the crimes in June.  "Here, the defendants guaranteed that danger would go from potential to certain when they armed themselves with pepper spray, wifi frequency jammers and on at least one occasion a firearm. The defendants clearly anticipated and were prepared for a violent confrontation in each of the homes that they targeted," prosecutors said in their request for $1 million bail. Maisonet appeared in court on Thursday in the Bellevue jewelry store robbery. All the robberies and burglaries were committed between January and June of this year, according to charging documents. There also was an attempted break-in at the home of former Mariners star Edgar Martinez's Clyde Hill home mentioned in the court documents. Julio Rodriguez's Mercer Island home was also broken into, although Riley is the lone person charged in that break-in. Between all of Maisonet's outstanding criminal cases, he is being held in King County Jail on over $2 million in bail. Among the items recovered from Maisonet's home when police executed a search warrant were a Seahawks Super Bowl championship ring and a Seattle Sounders championship ring. Maisonet is due back in court next on Sept. 9. Riley will next appear before a judge on Sept. 29.

Suspect in robbery of Macklemore’s home pleads not guilty to separate crime

The suspect has yet to be charged in the violent robbery of Macklemore's home but faces charges in several other robberies. SEATTLE — The man suspected in a violent robbery of Macklemore's Seattle home pleaded not guilty to a separate robbery charge on Thursday morning. Patrick Maisonet, 29, is accused of being the getaway driver in a robbery of a Bellevue jewelry store in November 2024. Maisonet was on electronic home monitoring at the time of the robbery after being charged in an unrelated Seattle armed robbery in May 2024. While Maisonet has been charged in both of these prior robberies, Seattle police have yet to refer charges against anyone in the robbery of Macklemore's Capitol Hill home. Maisonet is considered the "primary suspect" in the Macklemore robbery, according to a release from the Seattle Police Department after he was arrested. On Saturday, June 7, two men broke into the home of Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, around 12:45 a.m. A 22-year-old woman working as a nanny for the family was attacked with bear spray. The two men entered the home through an unlocked door. A police report states children home at the time were unharmed. Macklemore was not at home at the time, according to Seattle police. According to a police report, one of the men ordered the other to "spray" the nanny with bear spray. They had her show them where the valuables were in the residence, stopping to search through drawers, cabinets and closets before placing jewelry, watches and shoes into bags, the police report said. Later, one man threw the nanny to the ground, at one point putting a boot on her neck and taking her phone. When she started to scream, they got her up, pinned her to a wall and tried to cover her mouth. However, she bit one of the man's hands and was able to run out of the house through a bathroom.  The nanny escaped to a nearby home and called 911. The suspects were gone by the time police arrived.  Police later recovered items that were taken during the robbery, including a Seattle Seahawks championship ring, Seattle Sounders FC Championship ring that had the victim’s name engraved on the side, and a diamond tennis bracelet.  Since then, Seattle police worked with the King County Sheriff's Office and Renton police, who were digging into other high-profile burglaries of sports stars and celebrities in the region, some of which have led to arrests. On Aug. 21, the King County Valley SWAT Team served a search warrant on the suspect's home in Renton and he was arrested on outstanding warrants for first-degree robbery, second-degree escape and booked into custody for a robbery investigation out of Bellevue. The man, who has not been officially charged for the latest robbery, is being held in King County Jail on $750,000 bail. On Aug. 27, police also arrested the owner of a New Holly jewelry store where the stolen items were recovered. A judge found probable cause for first-degree trafficking stolen property and third-degree possession of stolen property. The owner was released on his own personal recognizance. Kraken unveils new all-black third jersey that glows in the dark

SEATTLE — The Seattle Kraken unveiled the team's first-ever third jersey on Thursday with a very unique element. The jersey is all-black and has glow-in-the-dark elements, which the team says is a nod to the bioluminescence found in the waters of the Pacific Northwest. “When we set out to design a third jersey, we wanted to create something a bit more menacing and intense,” said Kraken Vice President of Brand Aaron Wiggan. “We drew our inspiration from the eerie shadows of the deep Pacific Northwest waters. The result is the franchise’s first all-black kit that includes an Ice Blue, glow-in-the-dark outline on the crest – a nod to the incredible bioluminescence found in these waters. We're extremely proud of how it turned out, and we can't wait to see our players and fans in this new look.” The jersey will be worn for the first time during the Kraken's game on Saturday, Nov. 1 against the New York Rangers at Climate Pledge Arena. As opposed to other past alternate jerseys the Kraken wore as part of the "Reverse Retro" league-wide theme or the Winter Classic Jersey, this jersey will be worn for at least the upcoming season and the two after that. In addition to the black jersey, players will don black gloves, shorts and socks along with matte black helmets. "This is an exciting new look for our team, and the jersey is phenomenal," said Kraken captain Jordan Eberle. "The glow-in-the-dark element is really unique, and it's such an eye-catching look. I love the inspiration behind it and all the details that went into the design. We hope it will add to the incredible atmosphere at Climate Pledge Arena." Season-ticket holders will be able to pre-order the jersey beginning Friday through Sept. 10. The public presale for the jersey will begin on Sept. 11 and the jerseys will be available at Kraken Team Store locations and online beginning Oct. 5. FBI confirms bones found at campsite where Travis Decker’s daughters were discovered near Leavenworth

Officials say the bones will be analyzed to determine whether they are animal or human. LEAVENWORTH, Wash. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed Friday that it recovered bones during a two-day search at the campground where Travis Decker is believed to have killed and left his three young daughters in May. On Thursday, the FBI announced that it had uncovered "several items" that were considered "potential evidence" during the search at Rock Island Campground. Decker's three daughters, Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia, were found there on June 2 and Decker has not been seen since he is believed to have kidnapped the girls on May 30. The FBI says the bones will be analyzed to determine whether they are animal human. No further information about the bones was released. In total, the search involved over 100 personnel who spent the two-day search documenting about 247 acres. The FBI worked with both the Chelan and Spokane County sheriff's offices, the U.S. Marshals Service, Port of Seattle Police Department, Yakima Police Department and other federal and state officials. Police found Decker’s truck at the campground on June 2, and the girls were found dead nearby. The discovery prompted a manhunt for Decker throughout the Cascades; however, he has evaded authorities for nearly three months.  Search efforts have slowed in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the King County Sheriff’s Office sent patrols to Snoqualmie Pass after a reported sighting of Decker but called off the search after several hours. The U.S. Marshals Service has worked with Chelan County to search tens of thousands of acres near Blewett Pass and the Enchantments. Anyone who sees Decker is urged to call 911 immediately and not to try contacting or approaching him. The U.S. Marshals Service is still offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading directly to his arrest.

A military judge sentenced Pvt. Deron Gordon, 20, to six years and three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to one specification each of sexual assault, abusive sexual contact and as a principal to indecent recording. Gordon was previously charged with additional crimes, but those were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Gordon is one of four soldiers who were charged in in connection to the sexual assault of a college student, who is now a commissioned Army officer, in October 2024. Teen sentenced in 2023 deadly Metro bus shooting near White Center

In the plea agreement, the teen said he recognized the man from pulling a gun on him on the bus several days prior and was nervous and scared. WHITE CENTER, Wash. — A teenager was sentenced Friday to over 23 years in prison for shooting and killing a man aboard a King County Metro bus near White Center in 2023. King County Judge Brian McDonald sentenced Miguel Rivera Dominguez, 19, to 23 years and 4 months in prison, with credit for time served. Prison time will be followed by three years of community custody. The sentencing comes after Rivera Dominguez pleaded guilty July 3 of first-degree premeditated murder. On Oct. 3, 2023, Rivera Dominguez fired five shots from “point blank range” at the head and neck of Marcel Da'jon Wagner, 21, who appeared to be asleep aboard the bus near Southwest Roxbury Street and 15th Avenue Southwest, according to charging documents. In the plea agreement, Rivera Dominguez said he recognized Wagner from having “pulled a gun” on him on the bus a few days prior. “i was nervous and scared when I saw him on 10/3/23 but he was not threatening me and I was not acting in self-defense,” Rivera Dominguez wrote. There were 15 other passengers on the bus at the time, but none of them were injured in the shooting. Rivera Dominguez, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, fled after the incident and remained at large for a month before he turned himself in. The shooting prompted concerns about safety aboard King County Metro buses. After the shooting, Metro said it would add security to the H Line, expanding transit security officers who patrol buses and transit centers.

Let’s Go Washington launches initiative campaign on trans youth sports, parental rights

Let's Go Washington, the backers of the 2024 initiatives, is looking for signatures again. OLYMPIA, Wash. — Let's Go Washington is back in the initiative game. The organization, founded by Brian Heywood, sponsored several initiatives in 2024 changing state law. Heywood announced Monday signatures are being gathered to submit two initiatives to the 2026 state Legislature or potentially voters. The initiatives relate to parental rights and trans youth athletes. Heywood's organization achieved significant victories last year when voters supported initiatives restricting natural gas use and overturning state laws limiting police pursuits. The state Legislature also passed Let's Go Washington-backed measures banning income taxes and guaranteeing parental rights to access school records. The success came after Heywood invested more than $5 million of his own money into seven initiatives. "Someone has to stand up and fight back. And what I think I've done is given the voice. I've given voice to 1.2 million people who signed at least one of our initiatives," Heywood said. However, the organization faced a setback earlier this year when Gov. Bob Ferguson signed legislation overhauling the "parents bill of rights" initiative.  "It stripped all the parts about parental notification or parental access to information," Heywood said. In response, Let's Go Washington is now gathering signatures for two new campaigns. The first seeks to overturn Ferguson's recent law, restoring their original parental rights initiative. The second would require physicians to assign genders to youth athletes during physicals, prohibiting those considered males from competing against females. "Allowing biological males to compete in girls sports is a blatant, a flagrant violation of Title IX, I would argue, and also extremely unfair to girls who've worked really hard to get in a position to be top athletes," Heywood said. Despite failing to pass initiatives targeting the state's climate law, long-term care savings program, and capital gains tax in 2024, Heywood remains optimistic about his organization's impact.  "Four out of seven, I'm pretty, pretty happy with what we did, and we're not done," he said. If the organization can collect enough signatures by the end of the year, the issues would be submitted to the state Legislature. Lawmakers could either pass the initiatives or let voters decide in November 2026.
