The 10 Best Things to Do on Cebu (Moalboal) in the Philippines
Cebu might not be at the top of the list when it comes to the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines, but this island absolutely shines in adventure and unique activities. Think of spectacular waterfalls that you can not only view but also climb through during exciting canyoning tours. Underwater, Cebu does not disappoint either: here you can snorkel among thousands of sardines that surround you like one giant cloud. The best place to stay in Cebu is the village of Moalboal, on the southwest coast of the island. It has a cozy atmosphere, plenty of great restaurants, and there is always something to do in the evenings. In this article, you’ll read about the highlights of Cebu, how to get there, and I’ll give you tips for the best restaurants to eat at. So, plenty of reasons to keep reading!
Most people travel from Port Barton or Siquijor to Cebu. Below you can read about how the journey exactly goes.
From Port Barton to Cebu (Moalboal)
Travel from Port Barton by minivan to Puerto Princesa Airport. This ride takes about three hours. From Puerto Princesa, there are several daily direct flights to Cebu City. If you book an afternoon flight, you won’t have to stay overnight in Puerto Princesa and can go straight from Port Barton to the airport.
After landing at Cebu Airport, you still have to travel 100 kilometers (62 miles) to Moalboal. You can take a taxi or public transport. The taxi is the most expensive but also the easiest option. Someone will be waiting for you at the airport, and then you’ll drive for 3 hours to Moalboal. You’ll be dropped off at your accommodation. You pay per taxi, so the more people you share the taxi with, the cheaper it is. Check taxi prices.
A cheaper option is to travel by public transport. It will take you about 5 to 6 hours, and you will have to transfer a few times. Take a taxi from the airport to the South Bus Terminal in Cebu. From there, take the Ceres Liner bus with the sign “Bato via Barili.” This bus leaves about every half hour and stops in Moalboal. Once at the Moalboal bus station, you can take a tricycle to your accommodation.
From Siquijor to Cebu (Moalboal)
Step 1: Take the ferry from Siquijor to Dumaguete. The duration of the trip varies from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on which boat you choose. You can buy tickets on-site, but if you want to make sure you get a good boat, it’s best to book in advance. View all ferries from Siquijor to Dumaguete.
Step 2: Upon arrival, take a taxi to Sibulan Seaport. This is a 15-minute ride.
Step 3: Take the ferry to Liloan Port. The boat departs every hour/half hour, and you can buy tickets on-site.
Step 4: At Liloan Port, shared minivans are waiting to take you to Moalboal in 2 hours.
Tip: Take a travel pill in advance if you are prone to seasickness.
There are many fun things to do in Cebu. Here are the 10 best tips!
Tip: The attractions in Cebu are quite spread out. To visit them, it’s best to rent a scooter. Loy’s Motorbike Rental is a good rental company in Moalboal. If you don’t want or can’t drive a scooter, take a day trip with a driver.
Visit the beautiful Kawasan Falls
When you arrive at Kawasan Falls, you’ll immediately understand why this is one of the most beautiful and popular places in Cebu. The crystal-clear water, sourced from natural mountain springs, turns turquoise due to the minerals and reflections of the limestone. At the bottom of the waterfall, you’ll find a beautiful pool with water that immediately invites you to jump in. Although this lower level is stunning, the true beauty of Kawasan Falls is hidden in the higher levels. However, you can only reach these by taking an adventurous canyoning tour. In the next section, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about this exciting activity.
Good to know: It’s 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) from Moalboal to Kawasan Falls. From the main road, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the base of the waterfall. During the walk, keep an eye out, as you might see clusters of bats hanging in the trees and colorful butterflies fluttering around you.
Must-Do in Cebu: Canyoning at Kawasan Falls
Want to experience Kawasan Falls in all its glory? Then join the Kawasan Canyoning tour! You’ll start at the top of the waterfall, a place that can only be reached through the tour. With a guide, you’ll follow an adventurous route down the waterfall. You’ll walk over rocky steps, and you’ll walk, float, or swim through the river. You can make it even more challenging by jumping into the river from cliffs or sliding down natural slides. Feeling a bit scared of heights? Don’t worry, all jumps are optional, so there is always an alternative path. With the canyoning tour, you’ll explore all the levels of the waterfall and end with a refreshing dive into the lower pool.
Tip: This is the most popular activity in Cebu, so it can get very busy. To avoid the crowds, it’s best to book the first time slot. Pickup from Moalboal is included in the price.
Discover the lesser-known sister – Inambakan Falls
Inambakan Falls is a hidden gem in the south of Cebu. Like Kawasan Falls, this waterfall consists of multiple layers, but they are a bit more pristine and less crowded here. The lower level is especially impressive. From several streams, the water cascades down from a height of 30 meters (98 feet) into a clear turquoise basin. This is the perfect place for a refreshing swim, while enjoying the lush nature around you.
It’s about a 2-hour drive from Moalboal to Inambakan Falls. Due to this distance, it’s much quieter than other popular waterfalls like Kawasan Falls. From the parking lot, it’s only a short walk to the base of the waterfall.
Snorkel with sardines and turtles in Moalboal
Snorkeling among thousands of sardines is an experience you absolutely shouldn’t miss when you’re in Moalboal. This incredible phenomenon, known as the sardine run, can only be experienced in a few places around the world, and Moalboal is one of them. As soon as you step into the water with your snorkel, you’ll be amazed by the breathtaking sight. Huge schools of sardines appear under and around you, moving in perfect synchrony, constantly changing shapes, as if they’re one organism. The massive sardine schools also attract bigger fish, and with a bit of luck, you might even encounter turtles.
The sardines are available every day of the year near Panagsama Beach, the central beach in Moalboal. Right next to Veranda Kitchen & Bar, there’s a small office where every snorkeler must pay a small environmental fee before entering the sea. The great thing is you don’t need a boat or tour because the sardines swim right along the coastline. All you need is a snorkel set, perhaps fins, and of course, an underwater camera to capture this unique experience. These items can be rented at several spots along the beach. Go early in the morning (from 7:00 AM) or later in the afternoon for the calmest water and the best chance to see the most fish. If you have trouble finding the sardines, feel free to ask locals on the beach where to swim.
Tip: Want to swim even deeper among the sardines? Consider bringing a guide who can teach you freediving techniques and give you longer fins. This way, you’ll get even closer and experience the sardine run at its best! You can arrange these guides on-site.
Hike to Osmeña Peak & Lugsangan Peak (Casino Peak)
Feeling like a nice short hike with a spectacular view as a reward? Put on your hiking shoes, drive to the starting point, and hike up to the top of Osmeña Peak. At 1,013 meters (3,323 feet), this is the highest point of Cebu. From the top, enjoy a breathtaking panorama: unique, cone-shaped hills that resemble the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol, but a bit more rugged, dramatic, and with significantly fewer tourists. The hike up takes about 20 minutes along a rocky path, which is doable even for beginner hikers.
Want an extra challenge and to see even more of this beautiful area? Combine Osmeña Peak with nearby Lugsangan Peak, also known as Casino Peak. First, hike back down and head to the starting point for Lugsangan Peak a little further along. The climb to this peak is shorter, about 10 to 20 minutes, but steeper. Since the viewpoint is a bit lower, it attracts fewer people, but the view is just as stunning!
Good to know: When traveling from Moalboal to Osmeña Peak, Google Maps will default to the shortest route, but this goes through the inland with many steep and poor roads, which isn’t comfortable to ride on a scooter. Therefore, it’s recommended to take this route, which first follows the coast from Moalboal and then goes inland through Alegria towards Osmeña Peak. This route is fully paved, less steep, and better passable. Keep in mind that there are some sharp turns, so some experience with scooter riding is helpful. Stop by Cambais Falls along the way, which lies right along this route. The total travel time from Moalboal is about 2 to 2.5 hours one way, so plan accordingly for your return trip.
Swim in the turquoise pool of Cambais Falls
Cambais Falls is a beautiful waterfall located on the route from Moalboal to Osmeña Peak. Therefore, they are perfect to combine! After a short walk, you’ll quickly reach the crystal-clear water of the lower pool, where you can swim. Cambais Falls consists of several layers, some of which can be reached via bamboo ladders and adventurous paths. Cambais Falls is still rarely visited and is located in a beautiful piece of jungle.
Hike to the hidden Montpellier Falls
About a 15-minute drive from Cambais Falls is another impressive waterfall, called Montpellier Falls. From a great height, the water crashes down onto a large rock and splashes into a turquoise basin. Since Montpellier Falls is still relatively unknown, it’s likely that you’ll have this beautiful place all to yourself.
The hike to Montpellier Falls begins at this point. From here, follow the narrow path down, which runs mostly parallel to a pipeline. Along the way, you’ll walk through nature and pass a few small houses. The hike to the waterfall takes about 20 minutes. The trail is not yet marked in Google Maps or the Maps.me app. Therefore, it can sometimes be hard to find, but the locals are happy to help guide you. The last part of the walk requires extra caution due to loose and possibly falling stones.
Diving in Cebu
Cebu is an excellent destination for diving. Besides being able to admire the famous sardine run from an entirely different perspective than during snorkeling, you’ll also find stunning coral reefs full of underwater life. Pescador Island is a popular dive spot due to its impressive steep walls, colorful corals, turtles, and large schools of barracuda. Alongside Panagsama Beach – the main beach in Moalboal – is a street with many dive shops. Savedra Dive Center is a well-regarded dive school.
Relax and swim at White Beach
The beaches of Cebu may not be the most beautiful in the Philippines, but they are perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Panagsama Beach is right by Moalboal, and although you can snorkel beautifully here, it’s not the best beach to just relax. Luckily, a few kilometers (miles) further down, you’ll find the peaceful White Beach. This is a 3-kilometer (1.9 miles) long beach with powder-white sand, plenty of space to lay down your towel, and great swimming. Stay until sunset, as they’re often breathtaking from this beach. You’ll find a few small restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish. To get to White Beach, navigate to this point where you can park your scooter. Don’t want to drive? You can also take a tricycle.
One of the most popular activities in Cebu is swimming with whale sharks. You have a 100% chance of seeing them all year round, as they are fed. This causes them to lose their natural migration patterns and become dependent on humans. This disrupts the ecosystem and has very harmful consequences for the population in the long term. Moreover, the activity is extremely crowded: every day, hundreds of boats go out into the sea, which causes stress for the whale sharks. To protect the welfare of these special animals, we strongly advise against swimming with whale sharks in Cebu.

It’s good to know that the village of Moalboal is the best base for exploring Cebu. Once a small fishing village, Moalboal is still quite small but now attracts travelers from all over the world. The atmosphere is wonderfully laid-back, with many cozy restaurants and great accommodations. Below you can read about our three favorite places to stay in Moalboal.
One of the most beautiful hotels in Moalboal is Tongo Hill Cottages. Here you stay in a cozy bamboo bungalow with an outdoor bathroom. The bungalows are set in a green garden, in a peaceful location, yet only about a 5-minute drive from the center of Moalboal. The staff creates a nice atmosphere, and fun activities are organized, such as movie nights. If you prefer a hostel, Chief Mau Moalboal Cebu is perfect! This social hostel is located on the main street of Moalboal and is a good choice if you’re looking for sociability. There’s a large common area with a pool table, and fun live music nights are regularly organized. The private rooms are comfortable, and the dorm beds offer plenty of privacy. Lastly, we want to recommend the beautiful hotel Secret Paradise Moalboal for those looking for more luxury. You stay in a lovely spacious room, but the real highlight of this hotel is the pool. It’s the ultimate relaxation spot with a shallow area and many lounge chairs. The restaurant also serves delicious food.

Swap Your Flip Flops for Shoes and Climb Taraw Cliff
Besides the many beautiful beaches, El Nido offers something else: the spectacular Taraw Cliff. The climb to this viewpoint is definitely not for everyone as you need to climb and scramble over sharp limestone rocks, and sometimes even climb steeply for a few meters. It’s quite the challenge, but it’s worth it! It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the top of Taraw Cliff, and it’s recommended to do the climb with a guide. The starting point can be hard to find, and the guide knows the best route to the top. Bryan from The Couch El Nido is a great guide for climbing Taraw Cliff. He provides gloves so you can hold onto the sharp limestone rocks while climbing. Once at the top, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful view. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water. You can message Bryan on Instagram.
Island Hopping from El Nido with ABCD Tours

Almost everyone visiting El Nido goes on one of these tours, so keep in mind that you’ll be sharing the paradisiacal spots with many other people. Find a nice spot in the soft sand, order a cocktail, and let yourself be mesmerized by the sky turning shades of orange, pink, and purple.
Kayak from El Nido to Cadlao
Opposite El Nido lies the beautiful island of Cadlao, and on a calm day, you can kayak there from El Nido Beach. Since most boat tours go to other islands, Cadlao is often very quiet, and you can explore the island’s various beaches at your own pace. When we were there, we only had to share the beach with a few monkeys. You can rent a kayak at Boutique & Art Café in El Nido. Things to Do in Bohol: Here Are the 10 Best Activities!
Bohol is a delightful island consisting of two contrasting parts that are both fun to explore. The main island is a green paradise with one of the most unique landscapes in the world: the Chocolate Hills. Along with expansive rice fields, the turquoise Loboc River meanders through the tropical jungle, where thousands of fireflies light up the banks at night. This makes your visit to Bohol a magical experience. In contrast, Panglao is the vibrant peninsula where you can enjoy white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, Bohol is the perfect destination!
Most people travel from Siquijor or Cebu to Bohol. Below, you can read about how to travel from these destinations.
From Siquijor to Bohol
Direct boats depart daily from Larena Pier to Tagbilaran Port in Bohol. The trip takes 2 to 3 hours. It is recommended to book in advance because the boats can be fully booked at the last minute.
From Cebu (Moalboal) to Bohol
In Moalboal, take the direct bus to Cebu City, then from Cebu City Pier 1, hop on the ferry to Bohol. Book ferry tickets from Cebu to Bohol. The trip takes 1 to 2 hours.
Bohol is a fairly large island with many things to explore. Here are the best things to do in Bohol!
Must Do: Stay Uniquely Along the Loboc River
The turquoise Loboc River winds through the jungle in the interior of Bohol. Along the riverbanks lies the beautiful Fox & The Firefly Cottages. This is a fantastic accommodation where you stay in a bungalow with a view of the river or the lovely garden. It’s the perfect place to completely unwind while enjoying the serene surroundings. But for those who want to participate in fun activities, there is plenty to do. Start your day with a yoga class, explore the green surroundings by mountain bike, or try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the river. At Fox & Fireflies, you can choose from various SUP tours, ranging from a relaxing hour of paddling to adventurous trips to waterfalls or even a yoga session on the water. Want to experience something truly special? Then join the sunset & fireflies tour, where you head out on the water during sunset. As twilight falls, the banks light up with thousands of fireflies – a magical spectacle that you’ll never forget. These tours do not need to be booked in advance.
Tip: Fox & The Firefly is a popular accommodation, and once you’re here, you’ll immediately understand why. If you want to stay here, it’s recommended to book in advance. Traveling on a budget? The nearby Water to Forest Ecolodge is a great alternative.
Enjoy the View Over the Chocolate Hills
In the heart of Bohol lies one of the most iconic landscapes in the Philippines: the Chocolate Hills. This surreal landscape consists of hundreds of cone-shaped hills, ranging from 30 to 50 meters (98 to 164 feet) high, with some rising as high as 120 meters (394 feet). They were formed by centuries of limestone erosion, a remnant from when this area was once a coral reef. During the dry summer months, from March to May, the grass withers and the hills turn brown. This gives them the appearance of chocolate balls, which is how they got their name. For the rest of the year, the hills are green, offering a completely different but equally stunning view.
The most popular spot to admire this landscape is from the Chocolate Hills Viewpoint. From the parking lot, you purchase a ticket and are transported by shuttle bus to the top of the hill. The final stretch requires a climb via stairs, where you have a panoramic 360-degree view of the landscape. There is also a restaurant where you can take a break after your climb before continuing on your journey.
Tip: The Chocolate Hills look their best at sunrise when a golden glow covers the landscape. The shuttle doesn’t run at this time, but you can still buy a ticket and ride the last part to the viewpoint on your scooter. Bring something warm as it can be chilly in the interior early in the morning!
Experience the Atmosphere at Alona Beach in Panglao
The white sandy beach of Alona Beach is the lively heart of Panglao, the peninsula of Bohol. During the day, a relaxed atmosphere prevails, with divers preparing for their underwater adventures and people soaking up the sun. As the day progresses, the boulevard fills with people settling down at the fun, simple beach shacks. Here, you can relax with your feet in the sand and enjoy fresh fish. If you prefer to sit in a charming restaurant, head to the cozy garden of Oasis Restaurant & Beach Club or relax on a bean bag at Okyanus Resto & Bar Lounge. In the evening, the beach comes to life with lively bars, where the music continues until the early hours.
Visit Camugao Falls & Kawasan Falls
Hidden in the interior of Bohol, two beautiful waterfalls are located close to each other, making it perfect to visit them together. Camugao Falls is a narrow but powerful waterfall cascading down from a lush green rock face. At the base lies a deep, crystal-clear pool where you can swim. From the entrance, a steep descent takes you via wooden stairs in about ten minutes to the waterfall. Once you’re down, you can order a fresh coconut and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Not waterfall-weary yet? Then drive 15 minutes further to Kawasan Falls. This smaller, multi-tiered waterfall has a fairy-tale feel, especially when you step over the bridge into the idyllic scene. The pool is a bit smaller, but the beautiful surroundings make a visit definitely worth it.
Learn About Honeybees at Bohol Bee Farm
Bohol Bee Farm is a lovely spot on Panglao where nature, craftsmanship, and good food come together. What started as a small beekeeping operation has grown into an ecological farm offering a wider range of activities. Today, you can learn not only about bees and honey but also about sustainable farming, herbs, spices, and traditional crafts such as weaving. You can wander freely around the grounds or, for a small fee, join a short tour that is given throughout the day. This tour provides insight into honey production and the many other initiatives on the farm.
Make sure to arrive with an appetite, as Bohol Bee Farm is also a delightful culinary destination. Try their homemade coconut ice cream in various flavors, served in a gluten-free cassava cone, or enjoy a healthy, locally sourced meal in their restaurant with an ocean view.
Take a Dip in Pahangog Falls
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bohol is Pahangog Falls. Here, you’ll find a double stream of water cascading down over rock formations that resemble stalactites, surrounded by lush greenery. You walk across a beautiful bamboo bridge to the base of the waterfall. The bright blue pool is perfect for swimming and cooling off. Unlike the more famous waterfalls in Cebu or Siquijor, Pahangog Falls is relatively quiet, and you may even have the entire waterfall to yourself if you go early.
To get to Pahangog Falls, you first pay a small entrance fee and then receive a guide. You can choose between a bumpy ride on the back of your guide’s motorbike or a 20-minute walk through the green landscape to the waterfall. At the end, you’ll find a short but steep staircase down. The return journey up is much harder, so bring plenty of water!
Relax at White Beach & Dumaluan Beach
Looking for a beach with a more relaxed atmosphere than Alona Beach? Dumaluan Beach and White Beach are next to each other and are perfect for escaping the crowds. You can easily walk from one beach to the other while wading in the shallow, clear blue water. Dumaluan Beach has more accommodations and resorts, offering more amenities. On the other hand, White Beach is cozier, with small tables directly in the sand where you can order food and drinks. On weekends, it becomes extra lively, with locals gathering to relax, eat, and of course, sing karaoke enthusiastically.
Ride Through the Towering Trees of the Bilar Man-Made Forest
As you drive through the interior of Bohol, you’ll eventually notice the landscape subtly change. The tropical landscape gives way to a natural tunnel of towering trees; the Bilar Man-Made Forest. This forest is not a natural piece of jungle but a planted forest of mahogany trees, which was part of a reforestation project in the 1960s. Still, the forest feels anything but artificial. There are several “sanctuaries” in Bohol where you can see tarsiers. Tarsiers are one of the smallest primate species and have a unique appearance. They are only 8 to 16 centimeters (3.1 to 6.3 inches) tall, have very large eyes, and long fingers and toes. They can rotate their heads almost 180 degrees and eat insects, lizards, and small birds. You may now think, “I want to see a tarsier in person!” However, it’s better not to do this because tarsiers are sadly endangered by tourism. Tarsiers are extremely sensitive to stress, and if they’re frightened, they can even harm themselves by banging their heads against trees. Tourists, cameras, and noise can cause a lot of stress. Furthermore, the sanctuaries are not ethical. They keep tarsiers in small enclosures and allow visitors to get too close, which is harmful to the animals. Tarsiers are nocturnal, and when there are many people during the day, they cannot sleep. This makes them exhausted and stressed. Therefore, it’s best to leave the tarsiers alone and not visit them, even in so-called sanctuaries.

JBLM soldier sentenced for sexually assaulting college student in barracks
A military judge sentenced Pvt. Deron Gordon to over six years in prison for sexually assaulting a college student.
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — A Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who sexually assaulted a college student in the barracks in 2024 was sentenced to more than six years in prison Friday.
A military judge sentenced Pvt. Deron Gordon, 20, to six years and three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to one specification each of sexual assault, abusive sexual contact and as a principal to indecent recording.
Gordon was previously charged with additional crimes, but those were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Gordon is one of four soldiers who were charged in in connection to the sexual assault of a college student, who is now a commissioned Army officer, in October 2024.
When Gordon pleaded guilty, he said that he and another soldier followed the college student into a bedroom after she had been drinking with them. He said she was unstable walking into the room and when they went inside she was on the bed and not responsive.
Gordon said he and the other soldier each proceeded to have sex with her and they filmed each other sexually assaulting her on Snapchat.
As part of his sentencing, Gordon will be reduced in rank to E-1 and dishonorably discharged from the Army.
Gordon will serve the remainder of his sentencing at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Once he is released, Gordon must register as a sex offender.
The three other soldiers who were charged in the incident are at different points in the legal process, and their cases are being treated separately.
If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault, you can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673. Additional resources are available on the Washington State Department of Health's website.

Teen sentenced in 2023 deadly Metro bus shooting near White Center
In the plea agreement, the teen said he recognized the man from pulling a gun on him on the bus several days prior and was nervous and scared.
WHITE CENTER, Wash. — A teenager was sentenced Friday to over 23 years in prison for shooting and killing a man aboard a King County Metro bus near White Center in 2023.
King County Judge Brian McDonald sentenced Miguel Rivera Dominguez, 19, to 23 years and 4 months in prison, with credit for time served. Prison time will be followed by three years of community custody.
The sentencing comes after Rivera Dominguez pleaded guilty July 3 of first-degree premeditated murder.
On Oct. 3, 2023, Rivera Dominguez fired five shots from “point blank range” at the head and neck of Marcel Da'jon Wagner, 21, who appeared to be asleep aboard the bus near Southwest Roxbury Street and 15th Avenue Southwest, according to charging documents.
In the plea agreement, Rivera Dominguez said he recognized Wagner from having “pulled a gun” on him on the bus a few days prior.
“i was nervous and scared when I saw him on 10/3/23 but he was not threatening me and I was not acting in self-defense,” Rivera Dominguez wrote.
There were 15 other passengers on the bus at the time, but none of them were injured in the shooting.
Rivera Dominguez, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, fled after the incident and remained at large for a month before he turned himself in.
The shooting prompted concerns about safety aboard King County Metro buses. After the shooting, Metro said it would add security to the H Line, expanding transit security officers who patrol buses and transit centers.

Let’s Go Washington launches initiative campaign on trans youth sports, parental rights
Let's Go Washington, the backers of the 2024 initiatives, is looking for signatures again.
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Let's Go Washington is back in the initiative game.
The organization, founded by Brian Heywood, sponsored several initiatives in 2024 changing state law.
Heywood announced Monday signatures are being gathered to submit two initiatives to the 2026 state Legislature or potentially voters. The initiatives relate to parental rights and trans youth athletes.
Heywood's organization achieved significant victories last year when voters supported initiatives restricting natural gas use and overturning state laws limiting police pursuits. The state Legislature also passed Let's Go Washington-backed measures banning income taxes and guaranteeing parental rights to access school records. The success came after Heywood invested more than $5 million of his own money into seven initiatives.
"Someone has to stand up and fight back. And what I think I've done is given the voice. I've given voice to 1.2 million people who signed at least one of our initiatives," Heywood said.
However, the organization faced a setback earlier this year when Gov. Bob Ferguson signed legislation overhauling the "parents bill of rights" initiative.
"It stripped all the parts about parental notification or parental access to information," Heywood said.
In response, Let's Go Washington is now gathering signatures for two new campaigns. The first seeks to overturn Ferguson's recent law, restoring their original parental rights initiative. The second would require physicians to assign genders to youth athletes during physicals, prohibiting those considered males from competing against females.
"Allowing biological males to compete in girls sports is a blatant, a flagrant violation of Title IX, I would argue, and also extremely unfair to girls who've worked really hard to get in a position to be top athletes," Heywood said.
Despite failing to pass initiatives targeting the state's climate law, long-term care savings program, and capital gains tax in 2024, Heywood remains optimistic about his organization's impact.
"Four out of seven, I'm pretty, pretty happy with what we did, and we're not done," he said.
If the organization can collect enough signatures by the end of the year, the issues would be submitted to the state Legislature. Lawmakers could either pass the initiatives or let voters decide in November 2026.
