Victoria-based Sepura has sold out the first production batch of root
, its patented under-sink food separator, marking an early traction milestone for the B.C. sustainable hardware startup.
The company said its first batch of pre-orders is scheduled to ship in July, with pre-orders now open for a second batch expected to ship in November.
Across its Kickstarter campaign and subsequent website pre-orders, Sepura has sold roughly 700 units of root
, representing USD $312,000 in pre-order revenue volume to date. The company’s Kickstarter campaign raised CAD $174,061 from 338 backers and hit its initial funding goal in just four minutes.
Founded in Victoria, Sepura has developed root
as a modern alternative to traditional garbage disposals and countertop compost buckets. The device is installed under the sink and separates food solids as small as two millimetres into an odourless bin, while allowing liquids to safely pass through household pipes.
The company says the product is designed to offer a cleaner kitchen experience while helping households handle food waste more sustainably.
“Selling out our first production batch of root is an incredible validation of our team’s hard work and the support of our early beta testers,” said Victor Nicolov, Founder and CEO of Sepura. “To see this level of immediate market demand right out of the gate proves that consumers are genuinely hungry for a cleaner, more seamless, and sustainable alternative to traditional disposals and messy compost bins.”
The current pre-order price for root
is CAD $619.
Sepura’s early momentum follows a successful Kickstarter campaign and its selection as the TELUS Stand With Owners grand prize winner. For the company, the sold-out first batch signals growing consumer interest in kitchen technology that blends sustainability, convenience, and home design.
Nicolov said Sepura is also looking beyond individual households as it scales production.
“As we scale production to meet this momentum, we’re not just looking at the individual consumer market—we’re also incredibly excited to begin exploring future opportunities with real estate developers to integrate root directly into modern residential builds,” he said.
With its second batch now open for pre-orders, Sepura is positioning root
as both a consumer kitchen product and a potential built-in feature for future residential developments.
