Vancouver AI Startup Orchid Brings The World Cup To Your Messages

Must Read

As the FIFA World Cup kicks off across North America, a Vancouver-based AI startup is using the tournament to show what a text-first personal assistant can do.

Orchid has launched a free World Cup experience that lets fans receive live scores, kickoff reminders, lineups, recaps, and standings through messages, without downloading an app or creating an account.

The service is designed to work like a text thread. Fans can tell Orchid which teams they care about, ask to be reminded before a match, or request a recap after the final whistle. Orchid says the assistant can also answer follow-up questions during games, such as how a player is performing or what happened while a user was away from their phone.

“Text Orchid and get live scores, goals, red cards, and final whistles for every match,” the company wrote in a launch post. “And if you’re going to a game, it doubles as the best local guide in town.”

For Vancouver, the timing is notable. The city is hosting seven World Cup matches at BC Place, including two Canada games, as fans from around the world arrive in the city for one of the largest sporting events ever staged.

While the World Cup experience is a consumer-facing launch, Orchid frames it as a small window into its broader AI assistant platform. The company describes Orchid as a personal assistant that helps users stay organized, find information, plan travel, manage calendars, and get things done through messages.

That broader positioning is what makes the World Cup product more than a sports-alerts tool. Orchid is using a high-attention global event to demonstrate how an assistant can move beyond workplace productivity and into real-time consumer experiences.

For matchgoers, the assistant can also help with travel-style questions, including where to eat near a stadium, what to do between matches, how to get around a host city, or where to watch a game. Orchid’s pitch is that fans should be able to ask those questions in the same place they are already coordinating with friends: their messages.

The World Cup service is available by texting Orchid at +1 (415) 605-3216 or by visiting orchid.ai/worldcup.
