Xtract One Tapped To Screen Fans At PNE During Vancouver’s World Cup Summer

Must Read

As Vancouver welcomes the world this summer, one of the city’s busiest gathering places is turning to AI-powered screening technology to help keep crowds moving safely.

Xtract One Technologies announced that its SmartGateway system has been selected to support security operations at the Pacific National Exhibition during a major fan festival taking place at the PNE grounds and Amphitheatre.

The deployment comes as the PNE serves as a central hub for fan programming from early June through late July, including live entertainment, match-day viewing events, and fan-focused activations expected to draw both local and international visitors.

Xtract One said the organizers were looking for a screening approach that could strengthen safety without slowing down large crowds entering the venue. The company’s SmartGateway platform uses AI-powered, touchless screening to detect concealed weapons and prohibited items without requiring guests to remove personal belongings.

“Large-scale events and fan gatherings, such as global sporting events with global security implications, are raising expectations for how security is delivered,” said Peter Evans, CEO of Xtract One. “These environments require solutions that combine strong detection capabilities with speed and ease of entry, supporting the celebratory atmosphere venues work hard to create.”

Evans added that the deployment reflects broader adoption of intelligent screening platforms as venues look for ways to balance security with guest experience.

For Vancouver, the technology will be part of a larger operational effort to manage major crowds during one of the city’s highest-profile summers. The FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver is running at the PNE from June 11 to July 19, offering free general admission, live match broadcasts, music, food, and fan activities.

Xtract One, based in Toronto, provides AI-powered threat detection and security screening systems for venues including arenas, stadiums, schools, hospitals, and other large facilities. The company says its gateway technology is designed to support faster entry while maintaining an unobtrusive screening experience.

The PNE deployment adds Vancouver to the growing list of venues using AI-driven physical security tools as major events rethink how fans move through entry points.
