Fireworks-related blast leaves three children with critical injuries

Must Read

This year’s Fourth of July holiday resulted in a devastating tragedy in Kent.

Three kids suffered critical injuries after they tried to light an unexploded device on their front porch Sunday morning.

The home where the accident occurred is on 2nd Ave. N., in Kent’s North Park neighborhood.

The three kids are all under 18.

Investigators believe the kids found the unexploded device and tried to set it off.

“When they lit it, it evidently exploded right away,” said Puget Sound Fire Spokesperson Pat Pawlak.

The blast was so powerful that it damaged the front of the house and blew out windows.

“This was actually a very tragic incident,” said Pawlak.  “If you do find unfired fireworks, leave them be and contact 911.”

Medics transported all three children to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
