Rep. Sharon Tomiko Santos supporters are in despair. Kelabe Tewolde, the progressive first-time candidate running in the 37th Legislative District, within 249 votes of the 27-year incumbent and chair of the House education committee. Since Tewolde’s base is young and progressive, his vote share will likely grow with each successive drop.
With 21.5 percent of the vote, progressive Hannah Sabio-Howell is headed to the general election in the 43rd Legislative District far behind State Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen. Rep. Shaun Scott has 96 percent of the vote! Wait, he’s uncontested.
In the race for Washington State Supreme Court, Position 3, Jaime Hawk is still leading Mike Diaz for second place. At 33.33 percent (okaaaay angel number “that returns to itself,” according to numerologist.com), she’s trailing conservative David Stevens, who holds the lead with 35 percent. Diaz has 31 percent.
If you must know, Theo Angelis and Dave Larson look like they’ll both make it through in the race for State Supreme Court, Position 5.
Kshama Sawant is 8,259 votes behind Republican Doug Basler, who will likely have the pleasure of losing to Adam Smith a third time in a general election. That’s the pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps dedication we expect from Republicans. Green Party candidate Democrat Melissa Chaudhry is in second-to-last place with 12 percent. Jacob Perasso of the fringe pro-Israel Socialist Workers Party has only 1 percent, as his voters probably decided Comrade Smith was the better bet for Israel.
Poor Al Dams. The chief deputy assessor for King County is dead last to replace his boss, John Wilson. Rob Foxcurran is leading the pack with 45.5 percent. We don’t know who his opponent will be. Dominique M. Scarimbolo, who did not seek any formal endorsements “to maintain complete independence,” and Christopher Roberts are neck-and-neck for second.
Rep. Cindy Ryu is holding her lead against incumbent, the State Senator from the 32nd District, Jesse Salomon. Someone bring this man a comfort meal. Breaking news: The Republican in the race, Ira McBee, is performing better in Snohomish County than King County. Shocker, we know.
