Outdoor Store: Snow Peak Brings Japanese Design to Fremont

Must Read

Pacific Northwesterners know that summer is all about spending time in nature, so Snow Peak’s first Seattle store, which opened this spring, couldn’t have landed at a better moment. Known for its camping equipment and outerwear, the Japanese outdoor lifestyle brand features pieces with simple silhouettes and superior craftsmanship.

The retailer has settled into its new home in Fremont, which is the company’s fourth North American location. “Seattle was a natural expansion choice,” says Josh Clouser, project manager of the Seattle retail expansion. “The city is a thriving hub for outdoor enthusiasts. Snow Peak’s addition to the CornerStone campus continues the ethos of [real estate group] Evolution Projects’ Campus Seattle community, creating a one-of-a-kind anchor for the active and outdoor lifestyle alongside Bouldering Project, Black Diamond, and Brooks Running.”

The 3,700-square-foot store embraces a material palette of timber and concrete, with subtle maritime references to round out the space. “Carefully considered spatial moves of layered shelving, softened vertical volume, and openness create a sense of clarity and rhythm,” says Clouser. “Natural light is used as a primary design material, strengthening the connection between interior and exterior and reinforcing a calm, breathable environment.”
