To adults riding their bike in a public space who would rather yell at children and crash their bike than slow down,
Please slow the fuck down. “On your left!” does not absolve you from the need to be aware of other people in a shared walking and bike path in a public park.
No one gives a shit if you are training for a triathlon; slow the fuck down if there are people around. If you are going so fast that you hit a tree and bent your handlebars in Seward Park, you need to slow down.
You received no empathy because you were being extremely reckless and endangering that child and yourself. You are an adult in full control of your body, and the child that you are yelling at is a child learning to ride their bike. While my kids have never been involved in this situation, I have actually seen this happen more than once, and it is ridiculous and absolutely the fault of the adult every… single… time.
Sincerely,
Biker Dad who is tired of seeing adults blow past children on their bikes and then crashing
