A driver of a reported stolen vehicle smashed into a King County Metro bus Wednesday morning, Sept. 16 just south of Kent and died from the injuries.

King County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 7 a.m. to a car vs. bus crash at South 277th Street and 83rd Avenue South, just south of Kent and north of Auburn, according to a Sept. 16 email from Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brandyn Hull.

“The car was a stolen car and likely hit the bus at a high rate of speed,” Hull said.

No details about the gender, age and hometown of the driver or where the car was stolen from were released. Passengers were injured on the bus, but Hull had no specific information about them. The driver of the bus was not injured.

The section of road where the crash occurred was closed for several hours, Hull said. The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Response team is investigating.
