Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking witnesses and dashcam footage of a fatal collision on southbound State Route 167 near Auburn.
At 12:46 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, a 2025 black Porsche 911 and a bright green Kawasaki motorcycle were traveling at high speeds southbound on SR-167 in lane four, also known as the far right lane. Just north of State Route 18, the car moved over to lane two, while the motorcycle moved over to lane three.
The car, driven by a 28-year-old Seattle man, then moved into lane three and struck the motorcycle, which was driven by 24-year-old Zachary T. Johnston, of Kent.
Johnston, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in the far right lane, with both vehicles coming to a rest on the right side of the road. Johnston died at the scene of the crash before first responders had arrived. The roadway was then blocked for 4 hours and 11 minutes.
In the initial report, WSP cited speed and improper lane change as the cause for the collision. On Oct. 1, WSP sent a release saying that the driver of the Porsche has been placed into custody for investigation of vehicular homicide under the reckless driving prong in the statute.
WSP detectives are seeking witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of the collision to email Detective John Ford at [email protected].
