LOS ANGELES — Hours before Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer was placed on seven-day administrative leave by Major League Baseball, a lieutenant with the Pasadena Police Department said the investigation into allegations that Bauer assaulted a 27-year-old woman during two sexual encounters is “bigger than we thought.”

“We were looking into some things and we thought we were nearing the end,’’  Lt. Carolyn Gordon, who is overseeing the investigation, told USA TODAY Sports Friday. “We are not close to the end.

“This investigation is bigger than we thought. So we have to look a few more places. We want to try to uncover as much stuff as we can.”

Despite the rain, the pyrotechnic production at Magic Kingdom was a crowd-pleaser, from every vantage point and from the moment the opening narration declared, “And they all

An agonizing decision is looming for condo rescue teams: How long to search for survivors?

0

In the coming days, or possibly hours, authorities may stop rescue missions at the scene of a Miami area condo collapse and begin recovery — a momentous decision that will likely declare that scores of missing people are dead.

Workers are still sifting through the rubble, listening and looking for signs of life. Officials have promised not to leave anyone behind. But no one has been found alive since hours after the collapse last Thursday. And as time goes on, families recognize hope is fading — some have been referring to loved ones in the past tense for days.

Experts say the decision to shift to a recovery mission is complicated

Sha'Carri Richardson won't run 100-meter dash at Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana

U.S. sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has been suspended for one month after testing positive for marijuana, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced Friday morning.

The positive test result invalidates Richardson’s performance at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, where she won the women’s 100-meter dash, and will prevent the 21-year-old from competing in her signature event at the Tokyo Olympics later this month. It is unclear if she will be selected for the women’s 4×100 relay team.

Richardson issued an apology on NBC’s “Today” show on Friday morning.

“I want to take responsibility for my actions,” she said on NBC. “I know what I did. I know what I’m supposed to do. I know
