Ghislaine Maxwell has been transferred from a federal prison in Florida where she was serving her 20-year sentence for sex trafficking as an associate of Jeffrey Epstein to a lower-security facility in Texas, the US Bureau of Prisons said on Friday.

“We can confirm, Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,” a spokesperson said.

An attorney for Maxwell, David Oscar Markus, also confirmed the move but declined further comment.

Maxwell’s move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the federal prison camp in Bryan comes a week after she met with deputy US attorney general Todd Blanche

Naomi Stadlen obituary

In the early 1990s, Naomi Stadlen was attending an event at the Freud Museum in London, where her husband, Anthony, was a research fellow, and someone asked her what she did. “Nothing,” she replied, “I just bring up our children.”

Naomi had sold herself short, and she ruminated on this for a long time after the event. In 2004, she brought out her first book, What Mothers Do, Especially When It Looks Like Nothing, in direct reference to that original exchange and her answer. Subsequently described by Anne Karpf in a Guardian review as the “best parenting book you’ve never heard of”, the book became a bestseller, was translated into

Itch.io Is Restoring NSFW Games—as Long as They’re Free

0

On Thursday, indie gaming platform Itch.io began re-indexing some of the adult content it had delisted last month amid pressure from conservative groups and payment processors over its hosting of NSFW titles. While the move returns some content to the site’s searchable catalog, it impacts only those games, comics, and other offerings that are already free and therefore not caught in the current payment debacle.

“We are still in ongoing discussions with payment processors and will be reintroducing paid content slowly to ensure we can confidently support the widest range of creators in the long term,” Itch founder Leaf Corcoran wrote in a post on the

WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY? Sorry, I can’t hear you over the Blue Angels rattling the foundations of my apartment building. They’ll be gone after the weekend, but not before more ear-shattering, bone-shaking noise. You wanted the news? Okay, okay, we’ll get you the news.

Little Fires Everywhere: Fire officials believe we have an arsonist in our midst. In the past week, four fires sparked in the Beacon Hill and Columbia City neighborhoods under suspicious circumstances. The fires occurred at a home under construction, the Columbia Funeral Home and Crematory, and a fence. Officials believe this firebug is the culprit. Another fire on Thursday seemed “suspicious.” They are offering $10,000 for

Smithsonian removes references to Trump impeachments at history exhibit

The Smithsonian Institution has scrubbed all mention of Donald Trump’s impeachments from a prominent display at the National Museum of American History, temporarily eliminating any acknowledgment of the president’s unique status as the only US leader the House impeached twice.

The alterations to the presidential power exhibit, first reported by the Washington Post, occurred in July, with museum officials replacing contemporary signage with an older version that excludes Trump’s impeachment proceedings entirely. Visitors now see only a generic reference to three presidents facing potential removal from office.

Museum representatives confirmed the changes followed an institutional review of exhibition content.

“In reviewing our legacy content recently, it became clear that the ‘Limits of

Gary Busey pleads guilty to groping a woman at a New Jersey convention

The actor Gary Busey has pleaded guilty to criminal sexual misconduct after admitting that he purposely touched a woman inappropriately at a horror film convention in New Jersey in 2022.

“It was not an accidental touching,” the 81-year-old Busey, who was once nominated for an Oscar, told a judge during a virtual court appearance Thursday.

In exchange for Busey’s plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss three other counts of criminal sexual contact as well as one count of attempted criminal sexual contact. All of the charges stemmed from accusations that he groped five women with whom he was taking pictures while attending the Monster-Mania convention at a Double Tree Hilton hotel in

Scientists slam Trump administration climate report as a ‘farce’ full of misinformation

A new Trump administration report which attempts to justify a mass rollback of environmental regulations is chock-full of climate misinformation, experts say.

On Tuesday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a proposal to undo the 2009 “endangerment finding”, which allows the agency to limit planet-heating pollution from cars and trucks, power plants and other industrial sources. Hours later, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a 150-page report defending the proposal, claiming scientific concern about the climate crisis is overblown.

Climate change is a challenge – not a catastrophe,” wrote the energy secretary, Chris Wright, in the report’s introduction.

Esteemed climate scientist Michael Mann said the report was akin to the result he

Sixteen states sue White House over healthcare access for transgender youth

Sixteen states are suing the Trump administration to defend transgender youth healthcare access, which has rapidly eroded across the US due to threats from the federal government.

The Democratic attorneys general of California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois and Connecticut are leading the lawsuit, announced on Friday, which challenges the president’s efforts to eradicate vital medical treatments for trans youth.

The complaint targets one of the president’s first executive orders issued in January, which described puberty blockers and hormone therapy as “chemical and surgical mutilation”, called for federal funds to be withheld from hospitals that provide the treatments and suggested the US Department of Justice could investigate doctors. Those gender-affirming treatments, which

Dozens of countries scramble to cope with latest wave of Trump trade tariffs

Leaders of more than 60 countries have been plunged into a fresh race to secure trade deals with the US after Donald Trump unleashed global chaos with sweeping new tariff rates.

Trump’s latest blitz triggered a wave of market jitters and fears for jobs in some of the poorest countries, as tariff rates were signed off ranging from 50% to 10%.

There was a minor reprieve that opened the door to further negotiations, after the White House said the updated tariffs would take effect on 7 August, not on Friday, the deadline previously set by Trump.

The new rates, which Trump sees as benefiting US exporters, create uncertainty for dozens of countries,
