Opinion: Fatigue hurt Clippers in Game 4 loss vs. Suns more than Paul George missed free throws, offensive struggles
LOS ANGELES — Nearly 90 minutes passed after the Los Angeles Clippers suffered an 84-80 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. So before Clippers forward Paul George emerged into the interview room, he had plenty to digest while completing his post-game workout.
The Clippers face a 3-1 deficit, and their season could end with a decisive Game 5 in Phoenix on Tuesday. No signs suggest Kawhi Leonard could return after missing the past six games with a right knee injury. The Clippers went scoreless for just over four minutes. And with the Clippers trailing 81-78 with seven seconds left, George missed
Grant Holloway, Rai Benjamin in class of their own in men's hurdles at U.S. Olympic trials
EUGENE, Ore. — The world record in the men’s 110-meter hurdles has stood for nearly a decade. The mark in the 400 hurdles has been practically untouchable, going all the way back to 1992.
But on a balmy night at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials Saturday, both of those records nearly fell — and in the span of just 45 minutes.
In a dominant back-to-back display, 110-meter hurdler Grant Holloway and 400-meter hurdler Rai Benjamin each came a fraction of a second away from immortality at Hayward Field, cruising to victory in their respective finals — and showing why the United States likely will be favored to sweep the
'I feel like it was a setup': Gwendolyn Berry finishes third in hammer, feels blindsided by national anthem
EUGENE, Ore. — There’s a certain routine for the top-three finishers in an event at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials, after they secure their spots on Team USA. They’re handed an American flag and a bouquet of flowers. They stand on the podium. They take some pictures. Then they take a victory lap around Hayward Field, to cheers from the crowd.
Gwendolyn Berry knew what to expect Saturday evening, after she placed third in the hammer throw. But she did not expect that, as she stood on the podium before taking pictures, organizers would play

Gabby Thomas wins women's 200 meters at U.S. Olympic trials with second-fastest time ever, Allyson Felix fails to qualify
Gabby Thomas ran a world-leading 21.94 seconds in the semifinals of the women’s 200 meters on Friday — and her momentum carried over to Saturday.
Thomas eclipsed her previous career-best as she crossed the finish line in 21.61 to win the women’s 200 meters at the U.S. Olympic trials. Her time is the second-fastest in the history of the women’s 200 meters and puts her in illustrious company. Only Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world-record 21.34 seconds from 1988 is faster.
“I’ve been working so hard,” Thomas said. “I moved to Austin, Texas to train for this. I still just cannot believe it. I’m so, so happy. I’ve been working so hard. I’m really
'I'm trying to save American democracy': Donald Trump returns to rally stage in Ohio
Former President Donald Trump returned to campaign mode with a vengeance Saturday night, vowing at a rally in Ohio that Republicans would take back Congress, bemoaning his loss in last November’s election and retaliating against a GOP congressman who voted to impeach him.
Calling the event “the very first rally of the 2022 election,” Trump predicted next year’s elections would result in “giant Republican majorities” in both chambers of Congress.
“We’re going to take back the House, and we’re going to take back the Senate,” he promised the crowd at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington, about a half-hour southwest of Cleveland.
“We have no choice,” he added.
The event marked Trump’s return to the kind
Opinion: Tokyo-bound Shane Wiskus shows Minnesota what a mistake it made in cutting men's gymnastics
ST. LOUIS — The Minnesota athletics department would have been better sitting this one out.
No sooner had Shane Wiskus been introduced as a member of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team for the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday night than the department posted a congratulatory Tweet. Complete with not one, not two, but three photos of Wiskus competing in his Minnesota uniform.
A uniform that now qualifies as a relic, given Minnesota’s decision last fall to cut its men’s gymnastics team.
“I have a lot of things in my head right now,” Wiskus said when he was asked about the Tweet.
Oh, I can just bet.
Wiskus was among the most vocal critics after Minnesota
Body found in rubble after Florida building collapse as death toll rises to 5; 156 unaccounted for
SURFSIDE, Fla. – Responders found a body and human remains Saturday in the rubble at the site of a 12-story beachfront condominium building that collapsed just north of Miami early Thursday morning, killing at least five people and leaving 156 more unaccounted for.
“Today, our search and rescue teams found another body in the rubble, and as well our search has revealed some human remains,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a press conference late Saturday.
Three bodies previously uncovered in the rubble were identified, and next of kin has been notified, Levine Cava said. She did not release the names of the people who have been identified.
Officials have accounted for 130 people, she
Biden walks back veto threat of infrastructure deal amid intense pushback from Republicans
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Saturday walked back a threat to veto his bipartisan infrastructure deal amid intense pushback from Republicans that jeopardized the fragile agreement just one day after it was reached.
In a prepared statement, Biden said he “understandably upset some Republicans” when he said Thursday he would only sign the $1.2 trillion infrastructure deal into law if Congress also passes a multitrillion-dollar package focused on “human infrastructure” outlined in his American Families Plan and supported by only Democrats.
“My comments also created the impression that I was issuing a veto threat on the very plan I had just agreed to, which was certainly not my intent,” Biden said.
