Before and after look at Champlain Towers South, the Florida building that partially collapsed

Rescuers were searching for survivors in the rubble Saturday after a 40-year-old South Florida beachside condo building collapsed, killing at least four people and leaving 159 unaccounted for.

Investigators were working to determine what caused part of the Champlain Towers South, a 12-story condominium, “pancaked” in the town of Surfside, Florida, shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday.

About half of the building’s more than 130 units were affected, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

Why the building collapsed is not immediately known. Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett said the roof was being worked on recently, but he did not think that caused the building to fall. A study published in 2020 also found the building was sinking at a rate of about 2 millimeters

Four people are dead and one is in critical condition after a hot air balloon crashed into a power line Saturday morning in Albuquerque.

The hot air balloon with five people on board struck a power line about six miles west of the Albuquerque International Sunport Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the crash. The balloon’s basket caught fire after crashing into the median of a busy street.

The crash caused power outages in the area, according to a tweet from the Albuquerque Police Department. Police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said the multi-colored balloon skirted the tops of power lines, knocking out power to more than 13,000 homes.

SURFSIDE, Fla. – Firefighters battled smoke and time as the search continued for survivors after a 12-story beachfront condominium building collapsed just north of Miami early Thursday morning, killing at least four people and leaving 159 more unaccounted for

Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett told USA TODAY the rescue efforts will continue “until we pull everybody we can out of that rubble.”

“We will not stop,” he said. “You can count on us to continue this search until we find every person who’s alive in that rubble.”

However, a fire burning beneath the rubble was hampering those efforts, officials said, as smoke spread laterally beneath the pile of debris.

“It’s a very deep fire, and it’s extremely difficult

The largest healthcare system in Indiana has emerged as the second U.S. hospital group facing pushback for requiring COVID-19 vaccines for all employees, despite a federal judge tossing out a lawsuit filed by resistant Houston hospital workers.

Hundreds of employees demonstrated outside one of the IU Health hospitals on a recent Saturday afternoon and another protest is planned for July 11.

Houston Methodist hospital system also remains in the national spotlight for forcing out 153 employees this week who refused to get vaccinated.

The nurse who led the opposition, Jennifer Bridges, appeared on Fox News’ Hannity Tuesday night. Her attorney vows to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court and another protest was

Is there proof extraterrestrials are real? Five questions left unanswered by the US government UFO report

The UFO report raised more questions than it answered. There have been 143 unexplained reports of UFOs by US government sources since 2004.It’s unknown whether the phenomena are a threat to national security, though they do pose a threat to flight safety.Congress has increasingly begun taking UFO sightings more seriously.

A highly anticipated government report on unidentified aerial phenomena in American airspace was released Friday afternoon – and it’s not as illuminating as some may have hoped.

The report failed to offer firm explanations for many of the questions that raised the report’s profile in the first place, such as whether unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, pose a national security threat
