Authorities in Colorado were trying to determine Tuesday what prompted a shooting spree in suburban Denver shopping district that left a police officer, bystander and suspect dead.

The shooting Monday afternoon in Old Town Arvada came two days after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed three gun bills inspired by another shooting – a gunman’s rampage at a Boulder supermarket 20 miles away that killed that 10 people just three months ago.

The bills require an expanded background check before gun purchases and also reverse a ban that kept local governments from creating their own gun regulations. The state is also creating an Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

Biden administration admits it won't reach July 4 vaccination goal; CDC studies explain vaccination slowdown: Latest COVID-19 updates

The Biden administration won’t reach its “aspirational” goal of getting 70% of adult Americans at least partially vaccinated for COVID-19 by the Fourth of July, White House Coronavirus Response CoordinatorJeff Zients said Tuesday.

Sixteen states and the District of Columbia have reached the goal already – but some states are at less than 50% of all adults, Zients said at a White House briefing. Still, the goal of at least partially vaccinating 70% of Americans ages 30 and older has been reached, he said, adding that the administration also is on track to hit the 70% target for ages 27 and older by the Fourth of July weekend.

Zients said it will

At least three people are dead and four others were injured Monday night after a shooting in St. Louis’ Greater Ville neighborhood.

Police found the bodies of two men with multiple gunshot wounds near a curb outside a convenience store at about 7:30 p.m., St. Louis police spokesperson Evita Caldwell told USA TODAY. A third body was found in a nearby schoolyard with gunshot wounds to his torso.

Police identified the victims as Kevin Page, 40; Charlie Anderson, 31; and OJ Pernell, 44. All three are from the St. Louis area and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a tweet from St. Louis police.

St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said Monday during a news conference that there

Aduhelm, the new $56,000 Alzheimer's drug, is more expensive than you think. Here's why.

Biogen makes a new Alzheimer’s drug costs $56,000 each year.People who are eligible for the drug also will need expensive tests like PET scans or spinal taps.

The eye-popping $56,000 price tag on Biogen’s newly approved Alzheimer’s medication has generated significant debate on the value of a drug not yet proven to slow the mind-robbing disease.

But Aduhelm’s price is only the start of what consumers and insurers might pay to get the first new Food and Drug Administration-approved drug to treat Alzheimer’s since 2003.

Many experts say patients will need expensive tests to verify they have the underlying sticky clumps of protein the drug targets in the brains of

Drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day reduces risk of liver cancer, study suggests

Drinking three to four cups of coffee a day may reduce your risk of liver cancer and other alcohol-related liver diseases, according to a new study.

Researchers looked at the coffee habits of more than 494,000 people in the UK Biobank, a biomedical database, and monitored their liver health over 11 years.

Participants ranged from 40 to 69 years old, with 384,818 saying they were avid coffee drinkers, and 109,767 saying they were not. People who drank ground caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee saw the most benefits, while some reduction in risks was also found in instant coffee drinkers.

Coffee drinkers were 21% less likely to develop chronic liver disease, 20% less likely to develop chronic or fatty liver

Data: US will likely fall short of Joe Biden's July 4 COVID vaccine goal

0

President Joe Biden set a new vaccine goal for America last month: 70% of adults receiving at least one COVID-19 shot by the Fourth of July. If shots continue at their current pace, the U.S. will fall short of that benchmark.

In the past week, an average of about 353,000 adults have received their first vaccine each day. To reach Biden’s goal, that number will need to increase to about 892,000 adults newly vaccinated each day.

While the U.S. will likely fall short of Biden’s initial target, the White House announced on Tuesday that more than 70% of Americans age 30 and older have received at least one COVID-19 shot, and said that the country is on track

1 in 4 couples sleep in separate bedrooms. It affects the whole family.

Throughout her childhood, Leina Hsu never thought it odd that her parents chose to sleep in separate bedrooms. It wasn’t until she started seeing how couples were portrayed on TV that she started to recognize the practice was unusual.

After that, Hsu, a Chinese American writer and student at Georgetown University, began to feel the stigma of her parents’ sleeping arrangements whenever she confided in her peers.

“Anytime a friend was visiting my house, I felt the need to explain and justify my parent’s bedroom situation before they saw the layout of our home,” she says. Though her friends tried to appear supportive, “some of them couldn’t hide their shock or surprise.”
