The initial closing of fishing for salmon lasted only two days before Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife official reopened the lake for Coho fishing.
Within a few days of fishing ban, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has announced that salmon fishing is open once again, through Oct. 31, 2026.
The WDFW announced Friday morning that Coho salmon fishing is open again, specifically north of the Highway 520 Bridge (officially named SR 520 Albert D. Rosellini Evergreen Point Floating Bridge), east of the Montlake Bridge, and the portion of the Sammamish River near Kenmore from the 68th Ave. NE Bridge downstream.
While the initial closing was due to an indication of low Coho salmon returns, WDFW says that fish counts at the Ballard Locks have “improved significantly over the past week,” and saying that this is sufficient to reopen Coho retention in Lake Washington.
