Vancouver-based Beedie Capital has acquired a 50% ownership interest in Vistara Growth and will anchor the investment firm’s next major fund.
The Vistara Growth Structured Opportunities Fund is scheduled to launch this fall with a target size of US$500 million. Beedie Capital plans to commit up to US$125 million, representing one-quarter of the fund’s target.
The new flagship evergreen fund will provide flexible growth debt and equity capital to mid-to-later-stage technology companies across North America. Despite the closer relationship, Beedie Capital and Vistara Growth say they will continue to operate as distinct firms.
The transaction builds on a business relationship—and friendship—spanning more than three decades.
Ryan Beedie, President of Beedie, and Vistara Growth founder Randy Garg met as MBA students at the University of British Columbia, graduating together in 1993. The pair launched Beedie Capital in 2010 to formalize Beedie’s non-real-estate investments, with an emphasis on technology.
Beedie Capital and Vistara are members of the BC Tech Association.
BC Tech is the largest member-led technology non-profit in British Columbia, and we’re dedicated to turning startups and scaleups into the anchor companies of tomorrow. Our work supports members to grow and diversify their talent pool, acquire new customers, access capital and accelerate their scaleup journey. Five years later, Garg spun Vistara out of Beedie Capital. Beedie Capital became one of the new firm’s first limited partners and has since participated in all five Vistara funds.
Vistara has raised more than US$700 million across multiple investment vehicles since its founding. The firm targets a financing gap between conventional bank debt and venture or growth equity, offering tailored debt, equity, and hybrid structures to technology companies.
According to the firms, Vistara’s three previous funds rank among the top 10 private-credit funds globally in their respective vintages for funds below US$500 million, based on PitchBook’s 2025 benchmarks.
“I’ve watched Randy build Vistara into one of the strongest technology-focused growth capital platforms in North America,” Beedie said. “This investment reflects the confidence we have in Randy and his highly talented team.”
Garg said the partnership combines Vistara’s specialized growth-capital platform with Beedie Capital’s scale, permanent capital base, relationships, and complementary investment capabilities.
The deal arrives as technology companies continue to navigate financing uncertainty arising from artificial intelligence and other market forces. Garg described the current environment as an opportune time to launch the new evergreen fund.
For Beedie, who announced the transaction on LinkedIn, the partnership brings the pair’s shared history full circle.
“Today is a full-circle moment,” he wrote, “that at the same time feels like we’re just getting started.”
