Vancouver’s tech community will have an opportunity to connect with engineering researchers and industry leaders from around the world when the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) arrives next month.
Organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the conference takes place November 8–12 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, with its exhibition running November 9–11. Organizers expect more than 2,000 research leaders from academia, industry, and government.
For local founders and engineering teams developing physical products, the program offers plenty to explore. Nearly 20 technical tracks span advanced manufacturing, materials, energy, aerospace, biomedical engineering, and thermal systems, creating opportunities to discover research and meet potential collaborators across disciplines.
Artificial intelligence will be a prominent topic. A November 10 keynote panel will examine how AI is changing mechanical engineering, including its implications for design, safety, security, and professional ethics.
Other keynote speakers include Bridgestone’s Mattia Giustiniano, who will discuss the role of simulation and analytics in modernizing mobility systems, and Siemens Government Technologies President and CEO John Ustica, whose presentation will explore how engineers can turn complexity into an advantage.
The program also offers a direct connection to British Columbia’s cleantech sector. An industry tour on November 10 will take participants to Ballard Power Systems in Burnaby, providing a closer look at hydrogen and fuel cell technology. The tour is limited to 30 participants, with shuttle transportation provided.
For Vancouver companies looking beyond their immediate networks, the congress presents an opportunity to explore research partnerships, meet emerging talent, and exchange ideas with specialists tackling related technical challenges.
Conference registration includes technical presentations, keynotes, panels, networking sessions, and access to accepted conference papers. One-day registration options are also available for attendees looking to fit the event into their workweek.
