A trio of 3A KingCo football teams will play in a Kansas tiebreaker on Oct. 27 at Issaquah High School to decide who will take the top three spots in the KingCo Crest division.

Liberty, Inglemoor and Mercer Island are all tied at 5-1 in league play following the Patriots 10-3 loss on the road to Inglemoor on Oct. 24. Which means that to find the final two playoff spots, a Kansas tiebreaker will be played between the three teams.

A Kansas tiebreaker is when the games are modified from a typical football game. The teams play two, 12:00 minute quarters and the winner advances. The loser will play the third team, in the same format following a 20 minute intermission. The loser of that game is out, and the winner advances to the postseason.

The three teams will play a modified almost tournament, where two teams will play each other first. Those teams were decided at the beginning of the year when all 3A KingCo schools draw a number for tie breaking scenarios.

If the teams are tied after the 24:00 minutes of gameplay, overtime is regular high school rules. Alternating possession at the 25-yard line.

Mercer Island was the No. 3 draw, so they host Liberty who was No. 6. That game will be played at 7:00 p.m. in the first tie breaking game. Whoever wins that game will play Bellevue in the Week 9 KingCo championship against Bellevue and secures their spot in the playoffs.

The loser of Mercer Island/Liberty will play Inglemoor in a win-or-go-home finale.
