A Renton man has been sentenced to 50 months in prison for drug trafficking, says Department of Justice.
Davon Malbrough, 40, had been identified as a member of a criminal gang called “Family Mafia Crips.” A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigation began in 2023 related to gang members being involved in drug and sex trafficking, which found that Malbrough had been spotted “repeatedly selling fentanyl and methamphetamine at a homeless encampment in Bellingham, Washington.”
According to the DOJ release, US District Judge Kymberly K. Evanson spoke directly to this point in the sentencing hearing: “This is a very serious offense. The defendant distributed highly addictive drugs to highly addicted people.”
Records filed in the case show that, in July 2023, there were three different occasions where Malbrough sold fentanyl powder and pills to a person working with law enforcement. A December 2023 traffic stop of Malbrough’s vehicle “led to the seizure of 10 grams of pure methamphetamine, 3.5 grams of fentanyl pills, 12.6 grams of fentanyl powder along with two drug scales and $1,250 of drug proceeds.”
Malbrough was indicted for possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and two counts of distribution of controlled substances in October 2025. In the following year in June, he pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.
Prosecutors asked for a 63-month sentence, having written to the court about what happened following Malbrough’s last release from prison.
“Malbrough was released from prison in late 2018 following his near 150-month sentence for Assault in the first degree. He ended his term of supervised release on October 18, 2022. Less than one year later, he was selling fentanyl to transients in a homeless encampment and trafficking women for profit. The rapid recidivism shows a heightened risk to community safety,” said the prosecution, which included Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary Dilon and Kate Crisham.
