St. Elizabeth healthcare workers will be holding an information picket next week to educate the public about current contract negotiations surrounding health care coverage for employees.
The event is Thursday, Oct. 29, starting at 3 p.m. — attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
According to SEIU 1199 NW, St. Elizabeth’s parent company CommonSpirit has offered a contract that would increase the number of hours a diagnostic imaging worker at the hospital would need to work in order to be eligible for health care.
Doing so would mean some employees at the hospital would no longer be eligible for company health care coverage.
“We deserve no less than what other job classes have in their contracts at [St. Elizabeth Hospital] and across CommonSpirit hospitals,” the Union posted on their Facebook page.
This picket is around the time every year for the past several years that hospital employees have picketed about their contracts. Previous issues that were raised included inadequate pay, low staffing, and barriers to further education.
The Courier-Herald reached out to St. Elizabeth Hospital and CommonSpirit for a comment.
