FRIDAY
FILM
Land of the Dead: it’s for the gays
Halloween Eve, but make it for the gays! (The rest of you can come too, I guess.) Presented by Scorpio Rising Productions, Land of the Dead: It’s for the gays is a dark, campy horror/comedy that’s less typical slasher than it is queer and emotionally complicated. The film follows Mel as they confront a literal demon from their past, exploring the messy intersections of gender identity, addiction, trauma, and self-acceptance along the way. It’s a free screening full of supernatural scares, queer quips, and a surprisingly heartfelt take on what it means to face your demons (figuratively and literally). And honestly, what’s scarier than confronting your past? Besides maybe doing it the night before Halloween… LANGSTON THOMAS
