Two males were fatally shot in a drive-by shooting Monday morning, Sept. 28 in Kent along South 272nd Street under the Interstate 5 overpass.
Officers responded at about 10:43 a.m. following multiple reports of a shooting, according to a Sept. 28 Kent Police Facebook post. Callers to 911 reported two people had been shot and that the suspect vehicle fled the area.
Officers located two males inside a vehicle and extracted them for medical aid, according to police. Puget Sound Fire and King County Medic One personnel were on scene and provided emergency medical treatment. Despite these efforts, both males were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victims are two young males who appear to be in their late teens or early 20s, according to police. Detectives are working to confirm their identities.
Witnesses reported that they were stopped in traffic when they heard multiple gunshots on South 272nd Street near the I-5 overpass. Some witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan pull alongside the victims’ vehicle and someone from the sedan fire multiple rounds into the victims’ vehicle before fleeing, according to police. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on I-5.
Initial information indicates that this was not a random act of violence and the shooting appears to have been targeted, according to police.
Detectives responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation. Detectives are working to confirm the description of the suspect(s), and the vehicle they used by processing evidence, including available video from the area.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death and will release the victims’ identities after next of kin notifications have been completed.

Police closed South 272nd Street at the Interstate 5 overpass until further notice from Military Road South to South 270th Street/26th Avenue South.
Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. Traffic control is in place.
