UBC Welcomes 26 Startups to Fall Venture Founder Cohort

Must Read

From cancer diagnostics to financial planning for newcomers, 26 new ventures have joined Innovation UBC’s fall 2026 Venture Founder cohort.

The 16-week program helps UBC students, faculty and staff turn research and business ideas into viable companies through venture validation, business model development and leadership training. Participants receive guidance from a network of more than 50 mentors.

This fall’s cohort represents eight faculties across UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Among the ventures is FinTorch, which is developing a bank-agnostic financial dashboard to help newcomers plan their finances. ASLytics is working to improve content accessibility for Deaf community members, while SensRIM focuses on measuring wheelchair propulsion to support mobility.

Other teams include Nxylon, developing a renewable black material, and CryoGrip Materials, creating traction materials aimed at reducing winter slips.

Health-focused ventures include Aureon Therapeutics, pursuing targeted cancer drug delivery, and VeriPath, building evidence-traceable AI to help clinicians accelerate cancer diagnosis.

The program divides ventures into two streams: businesses with shorter routes to market and research-intensive companies facing longer development timelines, regulatory approvals or clinical trials.

Applications for the spring 2027 cohort are open until October 11 through Innovation UBC.
