Washington’s larger arts, culture, and science institutions have long provided spaces to laugh, cry, and occasionally practice hiding boredom.
They’ve also helped drive the state’s economy. In 2019, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis found that “arts and cultural production” accounted for 8.7% of the state’s gross product and nearly 186,000 jobs.
