WASHINGTON — After three years of apologetic cancellations and unsatisfying virtual get-togethers, mask mandates and vaccine checks, social distancing and plastic screens, Washington, D.C., is ready to party again like it’s 2019 — or, well, just about any other pre-pandemic year, when packed hotel ballrooms and crowded bars inevitably marked the arrival of the holiday season in the nation’s capital.

Reese Witherspoon is ready to pick Flick. The Oscar winner has signed on to topline and produce a sequel to “Election” that will see her reprising the role of Tracy Flick. Titled “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” the pic is based on Tom Perotta’s book of the same name. Deadline confirmed the news.

Released in 1999, “Election” tells the story of a high school teacher’s (Matthew Broderick) plot to derail the campaign of an overachieving student (Witherspoon) running for student body president. The film is also based on a novel by Perrotta.

Jessie Buckley will be honored at the 2023 Oscar Wilde Awards. A press release announced that the Oscar-nominated Irish actress will be presented with an award at the annual event run by the US-Ireland Alliance. The ceremony will take place March 9.
