New Savage Lovecast: With Comedian Gianmarco Soresi

0

A woman discovered that her boyfriend cheated on her. How did she know? He washed his own sheets for the first time EVER. When confronted, (after lying at first,) he said that men need variety and monogamy is unnatural. Is this correct?

A man and his husband now live apart because one of them didn’t want to live in the cold, dark, rainy Pacific Northwest. But they still love and miss each other so much. The caller feels like his house is a museum of their love, with objects everywhere to remind him of his man. Should he sell the house and move

Dynasty’s Journey from Gay Panic to Gay Pride

The TV show Dynasty featured a gay icon (and her son). Dynasty

Shoulderpads! Evil schemes! Putting on high fashion to go brawl in the mud! The ’80s soap opera Dynasty was all about rich people behaving badly, their dreadful behavior facilitated by their extravagant wealth.

But for years, despite the show’s anything-goes nature, there was one thing that Dynasty couldn’t get away with: showing a happy homosexual. Putting a gay man on one of the most iconic and popular shows of the decade was a long, multi-year fight — both on-screen and behind-the-scenes — but it was nothing compared to the battle it took to keep him there.

Slog AM: 67% of Voters Considered Leaving Seattle, Five Shot in New York Subway Station, Hotel Covered in Old Seattle Times Headlines Set to Open Soon

“So you say that’s it, I got to leave this place, I don’t care what these people think…” Charles Mudede

A recent poll bankrolled by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce provided the Seattle Is Dying army with new weapons in the form of this finding: Two out of three Seattle voters have had enough with the city and have considered moving elsewhere. This elsewhere will not, it is hoped, be run by socialists who give those homeless people all of the homelessness they could ever want. KIRO 7, of course, banged the “public safety” pots loudly, and quietly mentioned that “housing affordability concerns were higher, too.” Read the report

Slog PM: Britney Says She's Pregnant, Looks Like Culp Got Phished, I've Never Been So Moved by a Cow

Please go see Cow: Maybe it’s because my ancestors were cow herders (my particular Keimig branch owned a cattle ranch in Kansas), but Andrea Arnold’s Cow moved me profoundly. In her singular observational style, Arnold filmed the days of a dairy cow called Luma on a farm in the United Kingdom. It is technically a documentary, but it’s done in a rather unconventional style. There is no narration, nor are the farmers who end up in frame of any interest—the director’s sole focus is immersing herself in the perspective of this sweet, gentle cow as she gets milked, frolics in grass, and licks

Good afternoon from the intersection of arts, business, and downtown “revitalization.”

On Saturday, the city’s Seattle Restored project officially went live. The new program connects artists and entrepreneurs—with an emphasis on artists and entrepreneurs of color—to property owners of vacant storefronts in downtown neighborhoods for short term “activations.” Conceived during the Durkan administration, the Office of Economic Development partnered with business coalition Seattle Good Business Network, arts organization Shunpike, and real estate broker Susanna Tran to build the program.

According to Seattle Restored’s website, the project’s goal is to create “vibrant

The Seattle Human Rights Commission Wants to Step In for an Underperforming Community Police Commission

“There’s no representation for people who have experienced police brutality, who have lost a family member, or for the protesters who the cops tear-gassed,” said Howard Gale, a regular public attendee of the commission meetings. RS

On Thursday, the Seattle Human Rights Commission (SHRC) voted to apply for amicus curiae status with the federal court overseeing the consent decree. Amicus status, or friend-of-the-court status, would allow the SHRC to offer information or arguments that Judge James Robart may find useful when making his rulings related to the Seattle Police Department’s behavior.

The SHRC secured a pro bono lawyer to help with the application process, but hiring future lawyers to

Keeping Alexei Navalny Alive Requires Keeping Him in Headlines, Says Navalny Director

The first time I met director Daniel Roher, he was having a conversation with a quite serious-looking Woody Harrelson. This is because Woody, as well as a small film festival audience in Idaho, had just seen Roher’s documentary Navalny. Focused on Russian opposition leader and Vladimir Putin critic Alexei Navalny, it takes us into his life leading up to when he was poisoned in August of 2020. It then tracks Navalny’s recovery over the next five months, culminating in his eventual return to Russia where he was arrested and has been held since.

Sundance showed the documentary as their “secret” film this year, where

Musk unlikely to fade into background by not joining Twitter board

Analysis: Week of activity from tech billionaire supports platform chief’s prediction of disruptions ahead

Twitter’s chief executive knows this will not be the end of it. Announcing that Elon Musk will not join the company’s board, Parag Agrawal wrote: “There will be distractions ahead.”

Interference is hard to avoid when one of your largest shareholders has more than 80 million followers on your platform and a penchant for impulsive use of the tweet button. Since it emerged last Monday that the world’s wealthiest person controls 9.2% of Twitter,

Unstreamable is a column that finds films and TV shows you can’t watch on streaming services in the United States. We announced a few updates to the column two weeks ago, so check that out if you haven’t. And this week, we’re going all TV, baby!

Our first two shows in today’s column are available on YouTube. Lucky you! We still consider them Unstreamable (~read the fine print at the bottom of this post~) because the only thing keeping these videos available to
