Vanishing Twin's Visit to Seattle Was Years in the Making

0

Vanishing Twin’s North American tour has been two-and-a-half years in the making. (Thanks, Covid.) Lisa Hagen Glynn

Any band that has the stones to walk onstage to the strains of Joe Meek and the Blue Men’s “I Hear a New World” is raising expectations astronomically—assuming people in the crowd know Joe Meek, which is not always a certainty in 2022.

The multi-national ensemble Vanishing Twin did just that Saturday night at Clock-Out Lounge. They flexed the chops and outward-bound sensibilities that would’ve impressed the late, innovative producer.

Led by English vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Cathy Lucas, Vanishing Twin, roughly speaking, meld the haunting melodies and spaced-out vocal auras of

Not I-5, so it must be hell on earth. Charles Mudede

Who is still saying no? The concrete delivery drivers in our neck of the woods. The man has got to do more before they get behind the wheel again. MyNorthwest reports: “[The drivers] won’t be taking employers up on an offer to return to work temporarily in exchange for medical coverage in April and continued negotiations for a new contract.”

Do you know what I spend on gas every month? Zero. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch. You get it. My carbon footprint, as a result, is, in this society, very low. But I get no rewards for this from my

Former KOMO Reporter Says He Didn't Intend to Blast Out Proud Boys Propaganda, Issues Non-apology

Jonathan Choe’s former employer offered no comment on his narrative. WILLIAM THOMAS CAIN/GETTY

Now that the ink has dried on his separation contract with KOMO, the Sinclair station’s former poverty porn reporter, Jonathan Choe, has issued a non-apology full of unclear explanations for his decision to tweet out softball coverage of a Proud Boys rally in Olympia last Saturday.

The Tweet in his thread that drew the most criticism included a slideshow set to a song called “We’ll Have Our Home Again,” which was reportedly written by “a white separatist, ethno-nationalist men’s club” and used as an anthem at some recent Proud Boys rallies, including the one on Saturday.

This Week in Worker Conquests: Olympia Starbucks Workers Hit Picket Line, Teamsters Swear-In New Prez, Skagit Tulip Farmers End Strike

The sun is out, and I’m back from a week off to shine some bright news upon your beautiful faces! Let’s get into it.

New report on workers’ wages: Oxfam America blew the horn on income inequality, reporting that nearly a third of American workers earn less than $15 per hour. As we know, that isn’t enough to rent a two-bedroom apartment in any city in the U.S. To no one’s surprise, these workers making low wages are disproportionately people of color and white women. And, no, Aviators guy in the comments, these are NOT teenagers working their first job: 89% are 20 years old or older.

Cherry blossoms. Allegedly. HK

Stop the sweeps: If you haven’t noticed, the city is extremely sweep-happy right now. And these aren’t the softer JustCare sweeps that include weeks of outreach. Many of these people are not getting housing referrals and adequate outreach before the city pushes them from one corner to another, according to mutual aid groups who are on the ground.

All of this is to say, the city will sweep a huge encampment of around 100 residents after only 72-hours notice today at 9 am. To add insult to injury, the sweep notices are printed only in English and Spanish for an encampment in Chinatown International District. According

Three new signs BA.2 might not hit America as hard as Europe

0

Is BA.2 about to surge in America the way it’s surging in Europe?

There are already some clues that it might not — and the coming days could provide even more reason for cautious optimism.

Across the pond, the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron — which is at least 30% more transmissible than its sister lineage — has sent COVID-19 case counts soaring again at the very moment when most Western European countries seemed to be putting their massive winter waves behind them.

In the U.K., cases have more than tripled over the last three and a half weeks, skyrocketing from about 27,000 to nearly 87,000 per day. Across the European Union, new

Slog PM: Harrell Closes Bus Stop on 3rd Ave, Bombshell Texts from Ginni Thomas, and Reporters Need to Quit Goading Biden into Starting WWIII

Harrell temporarily closes the northbound bus stop on 3rd Ave: What will that do? The Seattle Times says it will force transit users to “shift one block south on Third, near Ross Dress for Less, consolidating riders in one location while thinning crowds on a block that’s long frustrated city officials.” In a statement, a spokesperson for the Mayor said the shift aims to “increase visibility into criminal activity by SPD and to reduce areas of congregation.” 🧹 🧹
