Arkansas police arrest man in killings of married couple hiking in state park

A 28-year-old Arkansas man was arrested on Wednesday in the killings of a married couple in front of their children at Devil’s Den state park over the weekend, officials said.

Arkansas state police arrested James Andrew McGann from Springdale and charged him with two counts of capital murder. Police did not mention a possible motive.

McGann had been hired at Springdale public schools as a teacher candidate for the upcoming year but had not yet come into contact with any of its families or students, the district said in a statement.

A lawyer couldn’t be located for him yet as he’s just been arrested. It was not immediately clear when his first

Kamala Harris declines California run – could she try again for the White House?

0

Following a devastating loss to Donald Trump, Kamala Harris returned home to California in January with a decision to make about her political future: to enter the race for governor, or not.

As she deliberated privately, the Democratic party was grappling publicly with a new political reality – one entirely reshaped by her defeat in last year’s presidential election.

Approval ratings for the Democratic party had cratered. Grassroots frustration with their party’s status quo swelled. And calls grew louder for Democratic officials to take a more combative – and urgent – stance against what many see as the Trump administration’s authoritarian threat.

On Wednesday, when Harris announced that she would not run

Republicans reward Emil Bove for Trump loyalty with lifetime judgeship

When more than 80 judges signed a letter opposing Emil Bove’s judicial nomination, they implored the US Senate to do its job in interrogating and investigating a host of serious claims that undermine the independence and credibility of his potential judgeship.

Now, Bove is among them – a member of the judiciary.

The Senate narrowly – and quickly – confirmed Bove for a lifetime appointment to the United States court of appeals for the third circuit, on a 50-49 vote, without looking deeply into allegations from multiple whistleblowers.

The retired judges, in their 15 July letter, warned that elevating to the judiciary someone like Bove – who allegedly has shown a disregard

How Apple’s New Spotlight Compares to Raycast

0

Two years ago I called Raycast the launcher Apple wishes it made. Apple, it seems, agreed—it’s adding all kinds of features to macOS later this year that duplicate a number of Raycast features.

Tahoe—which is currently in a public beta and will be widely available in the fall—includes a number of new features. One stands out: an overhauled version of Spotlight that adds a lot of new functionality. A few of these capabilities overlap directly with things that Raycast does. You can do things like write text messages or reminders without leaving Spotlight, for example. Eventually you’ll be able to interact directly with third-party apps. There’s also a clipboard manager,

Measles Cases Are Soaring in Mexico

The spread of measles is showing no signs of slowing down in Mexico. Between July 21 and 25, the country’s number of confirmed infections in 2025 rose from 3,553 to 3,730, an increase of 197 in only four days, according to the Ministry of Health. Experts and health officials in Mexico have warned that the virus’s speed of transmission appears to be increasing.

So far, the outbreak has claimed the lives of 12 people: 11 in the state of Chihuahua—which borders Texas to the north, the epicenter of the US’s measles outbreak—with one more death in the neighboring state of Sonora to

No one wants to hear about your dreams – unless you follow my golden rule | Adrian Chiles

As everyone knows – or ought to know – there is nothing as boring as listening to someone tell you about a dream they have had. This is a shame, as there is some good, out‑there content going begging. There could be gold in there, if only the dreamer knew how to deliver it. This is the problem: not the dreams themselves, but how bad we are at sharing them.

Keenly aware of the wondrous magic in some of my own dreams, and anxious for no one to miss out on hearing about them, I have been working on my dream-telling technique. And I’ve come up with some guidelines.

Or, rather,

Trump’s Unesco withdrawal is part of a broader assault on democracy | Liesl Gerntholtz and Julie Trebault

Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States a second time from what is essentially the beacon of global culture and heritage – Unesco – is depressing but unsurprising given the administration’s lack of respect for art and culture that celebrates the diversity of humanity in all of its fullness. But it is still a grave error of moral leadership that harms the United States’ global standing on free expression, human rights and democracy.

Earlier this year, he initiated a takeover of the Kennedy Center’s programming and content, and linked National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grants to highly partisan ideological conditions. Meanwhile,

Worried about your child’s screentime? Get a landline | Emma Brockes

Among the many useless but consoling facts I’ve hung on to at the expense of real knowledge is the telephone number of my best friend from high school. I can say it in my head – 612505 – and, like a combination lock, it throws open the door to a memory of me sitting on the stairs after school, yakking to the person I’d just said goodbye to on the bus. Given it’s more than 30 years since I used that number, I have to assume it will stay with me – along with the lyrics to the Cadbury’s Roses ad from 1983, the name of the fictional head
