Cannes Rolls Out Red Carpet for Johnny Depp, but Will Audiences Be as Welcoming?

0

Johnny Depp’s once white-hot career has flamed out in the wake of his many scandals, but the controversial actor has every reason to expect a movie star welcome when he hits Cannes on Tuesday for the premiere of “Jeanne du Barry.” The costume drama is Depp’s first leading role in three years, a period of time in which the star has mostly made headlines for his ongoing legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard (he lost a 2020 libel case involving her abuse allegations in the U.K., only to win another one in the U.S. in 2022).

But through that tempestuous period, one that saw Depp fired from

Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina are obsessed with all things murder in the first official trailer for Peacock’s original series “Based On A True Story.”

“Based On A True Story” spoofs the culture’s fascination with true crime, spinning a dark comedic thriller about a realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber as they capitalize on murders in their area.

Peacock released the first look at the new series during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall on Monday morning.

“I became fascinated with the idea of a relatable married couple whose youthful dreams

Film Independent Spirit Awards Set Date For 2024

The 2024 Independent Spirit Awards are set to take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 25. The 39th annual awards will recognize achievements in American independent film and television and celebrate the power of independent visual storytelling. The February date, on a Sunday, puts the awards two weeks ahead of the March 10 Oscars, rather than the day before as the Spirits had been in some previous years.

This year, the Spirit Awards embraced non-gendered award categories. ““For the first time in history, all the men will know how all the women feel when they find out they are competing against Cate Blanchett,” said the host of

‘Succession’: Justin Kirk Breaks Down the Election and How Mencken Differs From Trump

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 8 of “Succession,” now streaming on HBO Max.

It’s Roman Roy’s world, and we’re all just living in it.

Sunday’s hopefully-not-prescient episode of “Succession” pulls back the curtain on how, democracy be damned, a national election can ultimately be swayed by a few people who hold enormous wealth and power.

Such is the case with Jeryd Mencken, Justin Kirk’s slippery Republican presidential candidate who flirts with fascism and makes a not-so-subtle deal with Roman. (Kendall tried to accomplish the same mutual back-scratching last episode with Democrat Daniel Jimenez’s campaign, but his adviser Nate was uncomfortable with the

Her parents Anita and Brook Land have now joined together with Channel 4 and NFTS to create the Lesley Land Scholarship, which will enable participants to study for two years on the school’s MA course in marketing, distribution and sales. The Lands will

Jason Sudeikis Says Ted Lasso Was Originally ‘Belligerent,’ but Donald Trump’s Behavior Prompted Changes

Jason Sudeikis’ affable football coach in the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso” would have had a very different demeanor if it wasn’t for Donald Trump.

While speaking with The Guardian, Sudeikis dished on the early origins of Ted Lasso. He revealed that the character was initially conceptualized to be much more “belligerent,” but that observing the behavior of Trump forced a change.

“It was the culture we were living in,” Sudeikis said. “I’m not terribly active online and it even affected me. Then you have Donald Trump coming down the escalator. I was like, ‘OK, this

TV’s Tough Upfront: More Video Rivals Will Fight For Fewer Ad Dollars

0

Plenty of money will be spent on TV ads during this year’s “upfront” — but probably not enough to fuel the economics of all the nation’s big media conglomerates.

TV executives and media buyers usually can’t agree on much at this time of year, when U.S. TV networks try to sell the bulk of their advertising inventory in advance of their next cycle of programming. Buyers and CMOs insist TV advertising prices are too high, while TV sales honchos demand a premium for ads that are seen by more people all at once than commercials accompanying a random binge-watch or a YouTube influencer’s streamcast. In 2023, however, both
